Q: I work as a hair dresser and spent my entire shift on my feet. Will compression stockings help my legs feel better?
Yes, graduated compression stockings can help with the symptoms of vein disease such as aching and swelling (especially at the end of the day). Because the socks are "graduated" meaning, more pressure is around the ankle and lessons up the sock, blood is pushed back to your heart more efficiently, helping with your circulation. Compression stockings should be measured to ensure proper fit, by a certified fitter. Anyone who has an occupation of sitting or standing for long periods of time can benefit from compression stockings. While it can only help the symptoms of venous disease (treatment is laser tx to close the veins), it can help to PREVENT varicose veins and spider veins
Q: I'm scheduled to receive tx "sherman"; what is that?
A Sherman is a perforator vein. The perforator veins carry blood from the superficial system to the deep system of blood. The deep then returns the blood to the heart. If a perforator vein demonstrates incompetence (faulty valves causing the blood to flow backwards) it can create or worsen existing varicose veins.
Q: does Medicare cover spider veins?
Spider veins are not covered by any insurance company. Insurance companies view spider veins as cosmetic. Insurance companies will cover varicose veins if the veins meet the criteria such as vein size, and symptoms of tired, achy legs.
Q: Why is ultrasound important?
Diagnostic ultrasound is a very important component used to diagnosis vein disease. Ultrasound is a non-invasive test that uses sound to look at your veins. (much like ultrasound of your abdomen). Ultrasound looks at your deep veins and superficial veins. It is used to map out your veins, determine their size and how the blood is flowing through them. It can determine reflux(backflow) of blood. This is the cause of venous disease and varicose veins
Q: whati s a duplex ultrasound examination?
A duplex ultrasound is a non-invasive study performed that not only looks at your veins and blood flow, but can tell how your veins are functioning as well. It is important to complete the majority of this test while your are standing to get a complete picture of what your leg vein valves "really look like".
Q: what insurance company will be better to cover the treatments
Just about all major insurance companies recognize varicose vein problems as a covered services if the patient has symptoms and the veins measure a certain size.
Q: I would like to take advantage of the refer-a-friend program. How can I submit this on-line?
On the website home page, click on "contact us" located at bottom of page. Fill out your information then ,click "refer-a-friend" under the department tab. Under "how can we help you" please submit information regarding the friend that you have referred.
Q: how do I download a medical release form?
Please go to our website- at the bottom of the home page, click on "Important Forms" and it will give you the option to print the Medical Release Form. Please print out, sign and fax to the VVC office where you will have had your visits. Thanks!
Q: I want to know if UHC INSURANCE COVER ANY PROCEDURE ABOUT VEIN TREATMENT
yes, they will. All insurance companies recognize the treatment for varicose veins as a covered procedure if medical necessity is met.
Q: My legs and ankle swell a lot, to the point that my shoes are starting not to fit and I am uncomfortable wearing dresses, skirts, shorts etc. I noticed that the swelling occurs more in the summer time than in the winter. Especially if it is humid outsid
Venous disease can cause swelling, especially at the end of the day. Usually when you wake up your legs are “normal”, but by the end of the day they are heavy and appear swollen- this is due to gravity. The heat of the summer causes the veins to dilate, which makes the swelling more evident. Another type of problem is called “lymphedema”, this is usually prevalent at the top of your foot. This is due to congestion of the lymphatic tissue. A consult and a venous duplex ultrasound scan would take a look at your venous system and the veins- it will determine if the valves in the veins are working properly.
Q: How long do I need to stay out of work after a procedure?
It depends on your procedure. For most procedures you can return to work right away. For the laser procedure you can return to work the next day.
Q: How will my blood circulate if I eliminate my varicose veins?
The legs have 2 systems of veins- the deep system that lies between the muscles of the leg, and the superficial system that lies in the fatty tissue below the skin. The deep system does most of the work, pumping 90% of the blood back to the heart. The superficial system. Varicose vein treatment focuses on the superficial system. These veins can be eliminated without adversely affecting the circulation of the leg. In fact, the leg functions more effectively.
Q: What is the difference between arteries and veins?
In simplest terms: Arteries pump oxygen-rich blood from the heart, and veins return oxygen-depleted blood back to the heart.
